Need Cash…Try Reality TV

I take in a good reality TV show a few times a week. CBS’s Amazing Race is my all-time favorite. 11 teams compete in world-wide scavenger hunt. One team goes home each week and the winners earn the $1 million prize. I’ve even been taken in by Flava of Love. No, I’m not proud.

Who knew making a fool of yourself paid so well? Bravo’s Housewives stars clear $30,000 per episode. No wonder divorced, unemployed, mom of three, Sheree Whitfield (Atlanta housewives), can purchase an Aston Martin after loosing her home to foreclosure. The New York ladies are holding out for a 6-figure deal for their upcoming season. I won’t hold my breath.

Everyone’s favorite half-term governor, Sarah Palin, reportedly rakes in $250,000 per episode for the Discovery show, Sarah’s Alaska. That’s one pricy moose hunt.

No one, however, holds a candle to the Kardashian clan. Kim Kardashian is the highest paid realty TV star. She earns $2.5 million per episode. Cha ching! I’ve never seen the show, but apparently enough of you have.

If you are strapped for cash, don’t mind having a camera crew record some unflattering moments, and can stomach the tabloids publicizing any embarrassing mistakes (Sheree’s luxury car was recently repossessed); then a Reality TV role may be in your future. Just make sure you manage your earnings wisely. Reality TV gigs don’t have the greatest longevity. Does anyone remember “I love New York”? Exactly.
